Winter... Will It Ever End?

Author's Note: This post was actually written about a month ago and never published... Oops. I am happy to say, though, that the sun has now been out for two days, and the temperature has finally topped 40 degrees.

How does one survive the gloom of a midwest winter?

...(besides online shopping)...

Well, once in a while we get a sunny day warm enough for a hike:

Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, Hamilton, OH

And when it's too cold to be outside, we just move the walk indoors... to huge indoor warehouses like IKEA:

Nine bucks, people.

When it's not sunny or warm and IKEA is closed, there's plenty of snuggling:

Please excuse the laundry piles. This is not one of those blogs that flaunts domestic perfection.

But honestly, even with all that, this winter has seemed gloomier and more depressing than those in the past. Maybe it's because I sit at a desk all day, and then dream about work all night.

You know your life has become a bore when you make spreadsheets in your sleep.

Anyway, today I came across this character in the Princeton Alumni Weekly magazine:

It occurred to me that since I started working full time, I have not done anything creative. I rarely play the piano anymore, which means I also don't sing. I haven't sewed or crocheted in months. I have several half-painted things gathering dust in the basement...

OMG, I need a project!!

A few months ago I bought myself some paints and paintbrushes online and some old framed art from the thrift store (cheap canvases). It's just been sitting in a pile on the floor of our home office. So tonight I tore off the plastic wrap, and I'm finally getting started on some homemade artwork.

(Sneak peek of a future post? You betcha.)

It feels good to be making something again.  My soul does feel better.
